Neuroprotective Effects of Blueberries through Inhibition on Cholinesterase, Tyrosinase, Cyclooxygenase-2, and Amyloidogenesis

Blueberries are rich in polyphenolic compounds and have shown improvement cognitive function several clinical trials. The molecular basis of the neuronal protection blueberries, however, is not fully understood. objective this research to understand biochemistry effects blueberries through their impacts on enzymes pathways involved Alzheimer’s disease (AD) other neurodegenerative diseases. We examined inhibition enzymatic activity cholinesterase (acetylcholinesterase, AChE; butyrylcholinesterase, BuChE), tyrosinase, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). biosynthesis acetylcholinesterase a cellular model were also studied. Further, effect amyloid fibril formation was evaluated. Our results showed that directly inhibit AChE, BuChE, COX-2, with IC50 at 48 mg/mL, 9 403 12 mg/mL fresh berry equivalent, respectively. delay by 24 h 39 mg berry/mL. It reduces synthesis 19 berry/mL model. Those suggested neuroprotection may involve different pathways, including enhancing cholinergic signaling cholinesterase, reducing neuroinflammation formation. Collectively, play vital role beyond antioxidant our provide more mechanisms for neuroprotective effects, support being nutraceutical improve function.
